A Torn Heart
A Torn Heart
“As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man” Proverbs 27:19
A torn heart condition with Jesus is a very dangerous place to be. It means you are not surrendering your whole heart to Jesus. If you are still dabbling in the world, you are not giving Him your whole heart. A torn heart is much like getting married and giving your husband your heart, mind, and soul only to discover he’s still attached to his past love affair. Your heart is utterly broken with the realization you don’t have his love as you once thought, as someone else has captivated it. Your husband loves the idea of being married to you but his heart is not completely there for you.
He struggles giving up this other woman. He has a torn heart between you and this other woman. How heart breaking. This is exactly what we do to Jesus when we don’t surrender and give Him our whole heart and lives. Jesus loves us whole- heartedly to the point of death but we take His love for granted. This is likened to loving your husband with your complete heart and adoring him, only for him to sneak out to meet another woman. As if you don’t know, he continues to meet her regardless if he is hurting you or not. His desire for her is stronger than his love for you. You struggle and hurt inside as you watch him slip away to see her, which only leads him to a dark place, and eventually to the road of hell. Sadly he knows where it leads as well, but goes any way, for the desires burns deep within him. You open your arms to him when he returns home from being with his lover. He believes he is fooling you, as if you’re not bright enough to see through the facade. He is not fooling you. Not caring, he continues to go to her. You wait for him, hoping and praying, because you love him. You have forgiven him.
You can no longer wait because his heart has grown stone cold towards you. You let him go. You have no choice but to let him go. He is not choosing you but someone else. The man you love is heading into the darkest of dark, yet he still chooses this other lover. Lost in lust and selfishness for whatever dark thing holds him to her, he can’t seem to let it go but continues on. Broken hearted you know you can’t save him, he does not want to be saved. The choice is his. He chooses to cling to this lover. You offer him peace, a place to rest from all the ugliness of this world, unconditional love and acceptance. He yearns for the life you offer him, but clings to his other love. This cannot be, it must be one or the other. Marriage is made for two people not three. You both made a commitment to love, honor, respect, and to stay faithful to each other, but he has not. He has tied your hands; you can no longer offer open arms to him. He wants both, you and her. His heart is torn between right and wrong. Heaven and Hell, light and dark. This relationship with the other lover is exactly like your relationship with Jesus. The day you asked Jesus to take over your heart, you made a commitment to Him. But, you are still in the world as if no transformation took place within your heart. You’re sleeping around; partying with the same worldly friends. Nothing has changed. Your heart is torn between having a fulfilling life with Jesus and the ways of the sinful world. You want to have fun as if you are going to be missing out on something. You see people doing it all around you. You are numb. Your heart is cold towards Him. You do not care. Dangerous. Deadly. You are heading in the wrong direction! Your choice of course, but how desperately sad you are. You have just placed the One who loves you the most in a horrible place of decision. He has no other choice but to turn from you and let you go. He will always be there for you when you turn your heart back towards Him. He wants a true heart of repentance, a heart of love for Him. He is so very patient with us, always waiting and anticipating our return. Unlike us, if we were cheated on, we would never wait for the other person to run back into our arms. We would be long gone. Jesus is so faithful. He longs for us to be faithful to Him as well. He desires to bless us with an abundant life more than we could ever dream or hope; yet we keep running. I say it’s time! Stop! There is absolutely nothing in this world which brings satisfaction; it is but a vapor. Your foolish heart will be darkened. You’ll be burned by her; maybe not right away but you will. It is time to surrender your heart. Surrender and be filled. God wants l00% of your heart. Wouldn’t you if you were married? Would you expect anything less than 100% of your husband’s heart? Another parallel.

“Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, But they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil” Proverbs 1:28-33
